A Historic Pride
Parade...
Chicago's 2009 Pride Parade marked the 40th
Anniversary of Stonewall and, appropriately, history was made once
again. Nettelhorst Elementary, located in the heart of Lakeview, became
the first grammar school to ever march in the Parade. Organized by
parents - both gay and straight - the colorful contingent of more than
50 families was given a place of honor near the front of the Parade.
Before posing for
the photo above, the Chicago Spirit Brigade entertained
the Nettelhorst families with an impromptu pre-parade
show of twirling, dancing and cheering. Who knows... these
pioneering kids could be the Stars of tomorrow.
The Chicago
Spirit Brigade also made history on
its own this year... With the twirling flags of the Drill Team and the
crowd-pleasing leaps and gyrations of the Dancers to
complement the veteran Cheer Squad, this was the largest
contingent ever. And thanks to the enthusiastic and tireless work of
the many Volunteers, CSB collected
more than $3,800 as it marched along Halsted and Broadway. Thousands of
generous parade-goers contributed to this record-breaking
amount, 100% of which will be donated to AIDS Run &
Walk for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.
Including its
Saturday performance at PrideFest, the
Chicago Spirit Brigade raised more than $4,500 over the
weekend for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago!

See You at Market Days!

The
Chicago Spirit
Brigade will be performing again at the
city's largest and most popular 2-day street fair. With four
stages of live entertainment, be sure to check out CSB's high-energy
2009 routine of cheer, dance and twirl on the Belmont
Stage.
There will be two performances... On Saturday, August 1 at 3:00pm and
again on Sunday at 4:45pm.
As in previous years, we'll be Spreading the Cheer
at both performances to raise money for TPAN.
So come out, enjoy the show, and show your support for this
organization and the vital work it does in the community.
With fundraising records
set during both MidSommarFest and Pride Weekend, the Chicago
Spirit Brigade is looking to do it again at Northalsted
Market Days. This time, we'll be passing around our Spirit Buckets to
raise money and awareness for TPAN.
Founded in 1987, TPAN empowers people living with HIV through peer-led
programming, support services, information dissemination and advocacy.
TPAN also works in the broader community to increase HIV knowledge and
sensitivity, and to reduce the risk of infection. 100% of the money we
raise at Market Days will be given to TPAN.

With varied backgrounds from professional ballet and the Disney World
stage to musical theater and DePaul's dance team, the 7-month old group
has quickly melded into a superbly choreographed team. Drawing on jazz,
classical and hip-hop styles, the young Dance Team has been
Spreading the Cheer at every performance, furthering CSB's
mission to raise money for non-profit organizations that are helping
those with life-threatening challenges.
